Lung disease, including asthma, emphysema and lung cancer, is the third leading cause of death in America. Over the last decade, the death rate from lung disease has been growing faster than the death rate from almost any other killer.
Since 1904, the American Lung Association® has been fighting lung disease through education, community service, advocacy, and research. We are working to help those who suffer from lung disease today, and to stop the spread of lung disease tomorrow.
To succeed, we need your support. By participating in the Blow the Whistle on Asthma Walk you will join the fight against the Asthma epidemic.
The monies raised from the Asthma Walk will go towards important programs in Kern County that help children and their families who struggle with Asthma:
Open Airways for Schools: an elementary school education program for children with asthma. This progran teaches children to understand and manage their asthma.
Family Asthma Workshops: programs designed primarily for parents of children with asthma. Parents receive comprehensice information about asthma and it's treatment.
Mobile Asthma Clinic (MAC): The mobile clinic is staffed by a nurse practitioner and an asthma educator. Asthma action plans, spacers, and peak flow meters are provided, as well as follow-up asthma education and medical referrals.
