Women and Lung Health Conference & Reception
Women are disproportionately affected by lung diseases.
The number of women diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease─ largely emphysema and chronic bronchitis ─ has surged ahead of men. Asthma rates among women jumped 97% compared to just 22% in men in a recent 14-year period. More women die from lung disease than from any other type of cancer. Female smokers appear to be twice as likely to develop lung cancer as male smokers.
These gender differences in lung disease prompted the American Lung Association of Metropolitan Chicago (ALAMC) to create Catch Your Breath ®, a year-round educational initiative to raise awareness, advocate for legislative changes and increase funding for lung disease research.
The statistics on women and lung disease are breathtaking!
Together let's change the numbers.
