NORFOLK BOTANICAL GARDEN, NORFOLK VA
OCTOBER 10, 2004
Registration Begins: 1 pm
Distance: 5 Kilometers (3.1 miles)
Take a short walk with us on Sunday, October 10th, as we "Blow the Whistle on Asthma" to raise funds in the fight against this chronic lung disease. Our goal is to raise $50,000 to fund local asthma education programs for children and asthma research.
Why We're Walking
More than 300,000 Virginians suffer from asthma. The American Lung Association of Virginia strives for prevention of lung disease and the promotion of lung health. As a preventable chronic disease, the American Lung Association of Virginia is sincerely dedicated to preventing asthma. As asthma rates continue to rise, it has become clear that our work is urgent.
How You Can Make a Difference
By collecting donations and walking with us, you can help make a difference in the life of a child suffering from asthma. You can walk as a team (family, corporate, school, church, club, or organization) with your family, friends, neighbors, and/or co-workers; or as an individual. Registration is free. Money raised through your participation in the walk will go to asthma programs such as:
Open Airways For Schoolsâ: an interactive program helping 8 - 11 year olds and their parents take control of asthma.
'A' is for Asthma: video program for preschoolers teaching children about asthma and what to do when someone has trouble breathing.
Asthma Camps: summer camping experience for children with asthma encouraging them to better manager their condition.
