Blow the Whistle on Asthma Walk
On March 26, at the 2005 Asthma Walk in Austin, we honored the memory of Courtney Benson who died two years ago at the age of 10. Her parents, Cindy and Scott Benson, recruited eight teams that had a total of 278 participants and raised more than $23,000.
At the walk, friends of Cindy and Scott presented them with this quilt commemorating Courtney's life. It includes photos, poems she wrote, certificates and awards she received, pieces of her clothes, from her christening gown to favorite t-shirts.
"The outpouring of love illustrated by the quilt and the number of people who walked in the memory of Courtney, speaks volumes about the story and love behind every child and adult who dies from asthma. It inspires us to double our efforts to fight asthma on all fronts."
