Blow the Whistle on Asthma Walk
Millennium Park, Grand Rapids
Saturday, May 6, 2006
Event Goal: $30,000
The "Blow the Whistle on Asthma" Walk doesn't just raise money for the American Lung Association's research, education and advocacy initiatives. This walk offers hope to those currently battling this chronic disease and celebrates those who are successfully managing it.
For too long asthma has been looked at as something that "we just have to deal with." With an estimated 4.8 million children struggling to breathe every day because of this debilitating disease, now is the time to take charge and blow the whistle on asthma.
Across the country over 20 million Americans currently have asthma, of which close to 12 million have had an asthma attack in the past year. Asthma is responsible for more lost school days by children than any other chronic disease and even more frightening is the 55% increase in the death rate from asthma over the last 20 years.
