2007 Bike Trek to Shakertown
m
The 2007 Bike Trek to Shakertown is scheduled for September 15-17. Proceeds benefit the American Lung Association of Kentucky. The Bike Trek is a 3-day mini vacation on wheels through gorgeous Kentucky countryside featuring an overnight stay on Sunday at historic Shakertown.
The round-trip route begins and ends in Harrodsburg, with a Saturday overnight stay at Danville's famous Pioneer Playhouse. A 2-day option (Saturday and Sunday only) is available, which includes the Saturday night stay in Danville and a visit to Shakertown, but no overnight stay on Sunday.
No matter the level of cycling ability, there's something for everyone on our Trek. Beginners can opt for the basic route of 30 to 35 miles each day, while those wanting a greater challenge can enjoy a 69-mile, moderately hilly ride on Saturday and a similar option on Sunday. Monday's routes will both be shorter.
Our trek features numerous rest stops staffed by terrific volunteers. Throw in fantastic food and music, roving support vehicles and on-the-road bike repair vans, sag vehicles to carry your gear and luggage, and even free massages to provide relief to road-weary muscles and you can see why our ride has earned a reputation as one of Kentucky's premiere cycling events.
Participants are required to collect pledges prior to the ride to help support the American Lung Association's local lung health programs. Each rider will receive a Bike Trek T-Shirt. Additional incentive prizes will be awarded based on pledges raised and collected.
For registration forms and more information, call the American Lung Association office in Kentucky at 502-363-2652 or 1-800-586-4872, or send an e-mail to Trek Director Carolyn Embry at [email protected].
